  1. What is the objective of the Lawyer Referral Service?
The objective of the Clearwater Bar Lawyer Referral Service is to make legal services readily available to individuals and families needing a lawyer. Many persons are not acquainted with a lawyer. Also, many people are hesitant about seeing a lawyer because they have never before contacted one. Similarly many do not know which type of attorney is needed to handle the specific problem they are facing. The Clearwater Bar Lawyer Referral Service is designed to make it easy for you to contact a lawyer.

  2. How does the service work?
Your call will be answered by a coordinator who will take your name and address. You will be asked to state your problem briefly, and any information you give will be held in the strictest confidence. The coordinator will give you the name and phone number of an attorney so you can call and make an appointment with the attorney for a consultation. If your problem is a legal one, it is up to you to make the decision whether to make further appointments with the lawyer or authorize action on your problem.

  3. How much does the referral and consultation cost?
The fee for an up to 30-minute consultation is a non-refundable fee of $50 which is paid directly to the Lawyer Referral Service. There is no obligation on your part or the lawyers to go beyond the 30-minute consultation and $50 fee. The fee for any additional service should be arranged between you and the attorney at your consultation.

  4. What if I live in another state?
Most attorneys will conduct a consultation over the phone enabling you to take advantage of the service as long as the matter is in Pinellas County.

  5. Why should I use the Lawyer Referral Service rather than the Yellow Pages or a television commercial?
Only attorneys who are in good standing with The Florida Bar and the Clearwater Bar Association can participate in the Clearwater Bar Lawyer Referral Service. In addition, the attorney must have professional liability insurance.
